A treasure basket is a collection of everyday objects chosen to stimulate the different senses. Putting them in a basket gives the child a chance to explore and decide for themselves what they want to play with.

Items could include:

Fir cones, big shells, walnuts, pumice stone, apple, lemon, ball of wool, little baskets, brushes, spoons, sponges, egg cups, bowls, tea strainer, bunch of keys, small purse, tin foil, little boxes.

Everyday items are the best.The purpose is to offer interest through:

Touch: texture, shape, weight.

Smell: variety of scents.

Sound: ringing, banging, scrunching.

Sight: colour, form, length, and shininess.
